The Fassi-sponsored Petronas De Rooy IVECO team progresses well in the Africa Eco Race 2018
Nador (Morocco) – On the 2nd January, the 10th edition of the world-famous rally raid, the Africa Eco Race, got underway in Nador, Morocco, with the Fassi-sponsored Petronas De Rooy IVECO team getting off to a good start in the first stage. The race includes the diverse categories of motorbikes, quads, SSVs, cross-country vehicles and trucks and will end on 14th January in Dakar, Senegal, having covered a total distance of approximately 6,500 km.
The first stage (92 km) from Nador to Dar Kaoura in the north of Morocco saw a good start for both IVECO trucks, with Gerard De Rooy finishing in 3rd place at 5.25 minutes behind the leader Vladimir Vasilyev. On 3rd January, the 443 km-long second stage (from Dar Kaoura to Agdal) unfortunately saw the IVECO driver Wuf van Ginkel and his team fall back due to technical problems. Gerard De Rooy’s team, however, came in 5th overall in stages 3-5. Over the weekend, the race ran south from Fort Chacal, crossing into Mauritania to have a rest day in Dakhla and then arriving in Chami on Monday. After completing the fifth stage, De Rooy’s team is currently in 5th place overall and van Ginkel’s is in 53rd.
